F.A.Q

1. What is a Live-in Caregiver Program?

The Live-in Caregiver Program is a special program supported by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada with the objective of bringing qualified Caregivers to Canada when there are not enough Canadians to fill the positions. The Live-in Caregiver Program allows professional caregivers to work without supervision in a private household providing care for children, elderly persons or people having disabilities.

2. How does the live-in caregiver program work?

The program itself is straight forward and easy to understand, but since it is a Government program the explanation is fairly lengthy.  To qualify for the program you must be able to demonstrate the need for a caregiver.  This need can be for yourself or someone else in your household.  Caregivers are trained to care for the elderly, the disabled, those with Alzheimer’s & Dementia, plus child care.  Once we determine your needs, we select the Caregiver with the best qualifications to meet your needs.

3. Does the caregiver need to live in my house?

Yes, as a condition of their employment the caregiver must reside in the home of the person that they are caring for.  As an employer, you are required to provide the caregiver with a private room to live in.  Most caregivers become like a part of the family after a little while and families wonder how they ever lived without their help.

4. Are there any registration fees charged to the prospective employers?

No, there are no registration fees.  We do charge a one time placement fee that guarantees your peace of mind and your satisfaction with your new caregiver.

5. I have two children currently in daycare, how does the cost of a live-in caregiver compare with the cost of the daycare for the children?

The cost of a full-time, live-in caregiver is roughly equivalent to the cost of having two children in full time daycare.

6. Are your caregivers qualified to with children? The elderly?

All of our caregivers have experience working in the environment that best suits your family’s needs.  We utilize a detailed questionnaire to evaluate the needs of your family.  We then carefully screen prospective candidates to find the right caregiver to suit your needs.  All of our caregivers are trained under the live-in caregiver program criteria and most have advanced training as nurses, physiotherapists, midwives or other related fields.

7. Are your caregivers physically fit and do they have to pass medical examinations before coming to Canada?

Yes, our caregivers are physically fit and they all have to pass physical examinations by the doctors designated by the Canadian Embassy before they can come to Canada.

8. Do your caregivers need to pass any other examinations prior to coming to Canada?

Yes, in addition to the medical examinations, they also must have a spotless criminal record as they are required to pass an International Criminal Records Check conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation.  They must also meet the educational requirements and have completed the Live-in Caregiver course or have related medical experience.

9. How long does it normally take your caregivers to arrive from overseas?

There are numerous factors that can influence the time it takes for a caregiver to arrive in Canada, but the average is between 3 and 6 months.

10. Do you guarantee your services?

Yes we do.  We offer a 90 day satisfaction guarantee and will find you another caregiver if you are not satisfied with the caregiver that we provided for you.

11. Are your caregivers allowed to help with housework?

Yes, they are.  Your need for domestic assistance in addition to your care needs should be outlined in the Family Questionnaire that we provide you with.  Please note that the majority of the duties of a Live-in Caregiver should be related to providing care.

12. Do your caregivers have the required qualifications to care for the elderly including physical and mental conditions relating to elderly patients?

Yes they do.  With the aid of our family questionnaire and our careful screening process overseas, we are able to select candidates that have experience in caring for the elderly and are trained to deal with mobility issues, Alzheimer’s and dementia.

13. What are some of the advantages of having a live-in caregiver?

Personalized care for your children or persons with special needs

Consistent care in the comfort of your own home.

Improved quality of life for you and your family members

Quality care at an affordable price.
